Granville Bridge Greenway | Transportation 2040 Plan | Bike Lanes

I went and previewed a new building in Downtown Vancouver today. A fantastic, beautiful design called the Gesamt Kunst Werk project at Howe Street and Beach Avenue.

This post is about what I noticed on all the display models in the information centre. On the models of the Granville Street bridge there appeared to be trees down the middle and the bridge and it got me thinking… does Gregor Robertson and the current City of Vancouver council have plans to build a bike lane and pathway down the middle of the Granville Street Bridge? The answer is yes. Not only have we lost a lane on the Burrard Bridge and all of Pt. Grey Road, we will also be losing 2 lanes on the Granville Bridge.

I walk and bike all over Vancouver. I am very active and like the ease of moving about when walking compared to a lot of cities. Living in such a bridge depended town, taking away lanes when sidewalks are already provided to me is a step backwards.

While it will look pretty and be great in the Summer, we live in a Rain Forest and will be under used during the 10 rainy months we have each year.
